pseudo shoes

Posted on Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 | 1 Comment

Most of D’s socks are, you know, white and boring. But not these. They were an impulse purchase by Emily, Caleb’s mom, at what she calls a “used-baby store” — i.e., a consignment shop specializing in maternity/baby/kiddo stuff.

I dig ‘em because they look like something they’re not — in this case, Mary Jane shoes. I’m equally a sucker for those hats that make your kid’s head look like a strawberry or a dog with floppy ears. Stupid, sure, but cute. And way less annoying than those onesies covered in “adult” humor like “I ♥ BOOBS.”

That said, I think the Heelarious line of fake shoes designed to look like high heels is, well, creepy. Especially the leopard-print ones. (Thanks to Jen B for the link.)

I never before understood how people could take grainy, fuzzy video of their children, no matter how cute, and share it around. Now I know better.

Thanks to grammie for taking the first video!

0-3 days

Baby Delphine, on her first day home from the hospital.

Weeks ago, the doctors had told us our baby was in position, head down and ready to birth. “This is her round grapefruit of a head,” they said, feeling around the bottom of Caroline’s tummy, “and here is her pointy little butt,” poking around the top.

We should have known better. She turned out to have a grapefruit butt and a pointy little head. At least she takes after her parents.

The surgery was very quick and very quickly planned. Delphine Virginia Tucker-Raymond was born March 21, 2009, at 9:22 a.m., weighed in at 7 pounds 4 ounces, and was all of 19 and a half inches long.
