the chubster
At her two-month checkup, Delphine weighed 12 pounds, 10 ounces. The doctor said that 12 pounds is considered a magic number in pediatric circles, because at 12 pounds (or three months of age) a baby is considered big enough (or old enough) to sleep through the night.
Yeah, right. Good luck with that one, doc.
At any rate, D. was apparently large for her age (approaching 10 weeks) but not fat. However, just after this checkup she started to blimp out, from a little baby into a pudgy one.
This is very cute, of course, and perfectly healthy. The major drawbacks of sudden weight gain? We’re not using to lifting all that extra weight yet, and cleaning her is much more difficult. (You try digging bits of dried breastmilk out of a baby’s neck folds sometime. Blech.)
These days, Delphine has a bevy of new fat-inspired nicknames, from Pudge to several variations on Chubs, including Chubsalot, Chubby Chubs, and the Chubster.
All the chubbing around inspired Caleb to go look up the collected works of a rapper called Chubb Rock. You can see him in all his largesse on YouTube, of course. I like the ditty entitled “The Chubbster.”

Chubby babies are the best. Chub out, Delphine! Our Caroline was the chubbiest Chubbster…..
